Employment Requirements

Every employment candidate, both police officer or civilian, will be subject to the following:
  • Initial Interview: Interviewed by the Chief of Police and/or his designee
  • Background Check: Must satisfactorily pass a thorough background investigation
  • Psychological Evaluation: Must satisfactorily pass a psychological evaluation
  • Physical Examination: Must satisfactorily pass a physical examination
  • Drug Screening: Must take a screening test for drugs
  • Truth Verification:  Must pass a Computerized Voice Stress Analysis Test

Employment Eligibility

  • Minimum 20 years of age (Police Officer Applicants Only)
  • Must be a high school graduate or have a GED (certain positions may require a higher education level)
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions
  • Completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Course in North Carolina (Police Officer Applicants Only)

BLET Certified  Grade 14  $37,533
BLET Certified w/ Associate's Degree   Grade 14  $39,410
BLET Certified w/ Bachelor's Degree  Grade 14  $41,381
*Salary for officers seeking lateral transfers will vary depending on experience

Civilian (Non-Sworn)
Police Service Technician (PST) is a civilian position and encompasses a variety of fields to include the following:

Records and Technology  Grade 8 $28,007
Animal Control  Grade 10  $30,878
Forensics and Evidence  Grade 10  $30,878
Telecommunicator/911 Dispatcher  Grade 11  $32,422
