Public Works Administration
As the office of the Director of Public Works, this division is responsible for coordinating all the activities of the other eight divisions within the Public Works Department in providing services and giving support to other departments within the city. Compilation of various reports and studies are undertaken which are used to assist the City Manager, Mayor, and Board of Aldermen concerning budgeting and policy issues relating to Public Works matters. We also work with other agencies, non-profits, and special event groups to help improve the quality of life within the community. We are confident you will find a friendly, willingness to serve and assist attitude when contacting our office and look forward to working with you in gaining access to all of the services the City of New Bern provides.

Insurance

This division is responsible for the administration of the City’s Public Officials, Police and General Liability, Property, Boiler and Machinery, and Vehicle Insurance Programs. Through efforts toward reducing the city’s exposure in liability issues and insuring proper coverages are in place, this division provides a vital service to all city departments and citizens as a whole.

With property and structures valued in excess of $60 million, and the many exposures of liability faced in providing our services daily, constant attention must be given to insuring proper coverages are in place. Our goal is to make certain an efficient and effective claims management system for both city and individual claims, is readily accessible.
