A Statewide Model
As the utility industry continues to change, strategic planning becomes an essential component of building and maintaining a strong public power utility. Our Department of Public Utilities recently participated in a strategic planning process with the help of Hometown Connections, a subsidiary consulting group of the American Public Power Association. The result is a coordinated plan for addressing rapidly changing technologies, increased regulations, and changing customer expectations.
This planning process involved many community participants including residential, industrial and commercial customers, developers, aldermen, city staff, and representatives of ElectriCities, The process lasted several months and the final plan was presented and approved by the Board of Aldermen. The Department of Public Utilities' strategic plan has been recognized by ElectriCities as a statewide model for long-term planning, addressing critical needs, infrastructure, growth, economic development, communications, financial stability and customer values.
