General Safety Tips
- Locks on all outside entrances and inside security doors should be double cylinder deadbolts with movable collars that are recessed into the door.
- Good visibility should be maintained through windows, and all expensive items should be removed from window displays during closed hours.
- Alarm systems should be supplied by a licensed alarm company with a central monitoring station.
- Safe should be fire proof, burglar resistant, anchoored securely. Leave it open when it is empty.
- Building exterior should be checked including roof, cellar, and walls.
- Always leave your home so that it looks occupied.
- Remove all valuables from your vehicle while unoccupied.
- Lock your vehicle’s doors while unoccupied.
- Have your vehicle parked in a well-lit area on your property. Motion detecting lights are a deterrent to someone attempting to break into a vehicle.
- Install motion detecting surveillance cameras. There are relatively inexpensive cameras on the market that work well and could aid in the apprehension of a person committing a crime.
