Area Lights
Lights can only be mounted on City electric poles.  You will be required to sign an area lighting contract--three years for overhead and five years for underground.  After the contract is signed and the light is installed, the rental fees will be added to your next bill. A cost of 40% of the balance will be charged if the light is no longer wanted before the contract expires.

Costs
Area light/month: $18.74 (150w only) to $26.57 (for pole & underground)
400w flood light/month: $33.15
1000w flood light/month: $44.60

Types of light
150w high pressure sodium: $18.74
400w metal halide flood: $33.15
1000w metal halide flood: $44.60  

Associated charges
Underground: $4.90 or a one-time payment of $246.51/pole
Wood pole: $2.93
Special pole: $6.94

Other Electric Services

Request for underground or overhead residential service:

  • Open an account at the Utilities Business Office
  • Contact the Electric Engineering Office at (252)639-2826 to arrange a site visit.  We will need the address and lot number, and a name and phone number.
  • Allow 8-10 working days for work to be completed. 

Request for underground or overhead commercial service:          

  • Open an account at the Utility Business Office.

  • Allow 8-10 days for work to be completed.

Request for overhead to underground service conversion:

  • Contact the Electric Engineering Office at (252)639-2826 or (252)639-2827 to arrange a site visit.
  • Cost: $385, which can be reduced by $192.50 if serviced size is increased.

Cost per linear foot is $2.40. Normal cost to customer is between $500 and $700 for the City’s part of the work.
