MetroNet to Begin Construction in New Bern

MetroNet_LOGOMetroNet Inc. will soon begin construction on a 100% fiber optic network in the City of New Bern.  (See their newsletter announcement here!) The company is working with the City to wrap up design plans for installation of their network and plans to begin construction this fall, possibly as soon as October 1st. The City will post updates and information on this page so that residents and businesses can keep up with MetroNet's progress.

Representatives were in New Bern August 24th to present information to the Board of Aldermen about their timeline and what residents can expect as construction begins. MetroNet Meeting July 2021MetroNet began working with the City and other stakeholders (NC811, Duke Energy, Piedmont Natural Gas, New Bern Fire-Rescue and the Department of Public Utilities to name a few) in early June to discuss implementation.  The company estimates the project will take 2-3 years to complete and expects to have their first customers in service by spring 2022.  They've created a website dedicated to all things construction-related, and you can visit that site here  www.metronetinc.com/construction.  On that site you can find Frequently Asked Questions and watch videos on what to expect during construction. You can also notify MetroNet of any potential property concerns.

Residents will first receive a letter in the mail announcing MetroNet's upcoming construction.  That letter will arrive approximately 45-30 days before construction begins.  Then,  as construction nears, you'll receive a postcard, find an alert flag in your yard, and see neighborhood signs posted along major routes.
