New Bern Parks and Recreation is responsible for all Public Trees located in cemeteries, parks, City-owned open space, and/or street and sidewalk rights-of-way.  If you notice an issue with any public tree, please contact us at (252)639-2920, or click here to email Ally Leggett

Public Trees Ordinance

Development Services coordinates Tree Removal Permits for any trees on private or commercial property.  Permits are required for the following areas:

A Local Historic District
Tree Removal Permit and Certificate of Appropriateness (COA)
(New Bern Historic District, and Riverside Historic District)

A National Register Historic District
Tree Removal Permit
(Degraffenreid, Ghent Neighborhood 1 and 2, and Lawson Creek)

A Commercial Development
(due to buffer requirements)
